1.它的特點是每一個結都是由一根繩索編成的，并由其特定的外形和意義來命名:主句為Its characteristic isthat…。從句中“由...編成”可譯為be made with。“由...而命名”可譯為be named by。
2.在古代，由于沒有現在的配件，如紐扣或拉鏈，人們不得不把服裝帶打結，來綁住他們的衣服：“在古代，人們…”可以合并到一起，翻譯為ancient people。“沒有現在的配件”可用介詞without引導的介詞短語表示，即without present-day accessories,這部分狀語可放在句子前面。“不得不把服裝帶打結” 可譯為had to knot the clothing belt,這里的knot是動詞。句中的“來"表示一種目的，可譯為so as to，意為“以便，為了”，in order to也表示這個意思。
