年輕人可以當(dāng)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)
Task:The leaders or directors of organizations are often older people. But some people say that young people can also be a leader,to what extent do you think?
Sample answer:
It is true that many leaders and senior executives in global companies are elderly people. However, I would argue that those superb young people are also eligible to take important positions in today’s world.
On the one hand, compared to the young generation, elderly people possess more edges.First and foremost, they have better cognitive skills, such as big-picture thinking and long-term vision. This is because years of work experience and failures teach them to take every aspect into consideration before making important decisions. By contrast, due to alack of social experience, young leaders seem to make shortsighted decisions sometimes. Moreover, since the old have already overcome countless difficulties and challenges prior, they can quickly adjust their mood in turmoil and lift the morale of the whole organisation.
On the other hand, there are two reasons why younger directors are also competent to be leaders in important positions. In the first place, with well-educated backgrounds, young leaders are more likely to have a deep understanding of cultural difference, and they can empathize with other employees and clients much better. Today, empathy plays a key role in retention of talents. For example, it is easy to misunderstand others in a cross-cultural dialogue. When good employees resign, they might take the company’s knowledge with them, which is a brain drain for the company. Secondly, compared with the senior leaders, young directors can apply the latest technology and theory into practice, and this can counteract negative stereotype of management and greatly improve the productivity.
In conclusion, in my opinion, age should not be the criterion when selecting the leader of a company. Anyone who has the leadership can play his or her role in the organization.

飛機(jī)限制問題
Automobiles produce less pollution than do airplanes. Automobiles also consume less fossil fuel. Therefore it is necessary to restrict some flights. Do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
The argument that the flights should be restricted is invalid. Clearly, it is unconvincing to compare the volume of pollutants an airplane produces with that generated by an automobile, because an airplane is shared by many passengers while an automobile is usually for one or, at the best, several passengers.
Suppose a visitor drives 1,000 miles, burning 100 liter gasoline and emitting 10 cubic meter carbon dioxide, this very passenger is totally responsible for such an environment problem. But to what extent should another passenger, who travels the same distance by air, take environment responsibility? If the airplane consumes 10,000 liter gasoline and produces 1000 cubic meter carbon dioxide and if altogether 300 passengers share the flight, then traveling by air causes less environmental damage.
Another thing must also be in the list of consideration: the time. Traveling by air saves time. The point is that even if traveling by automobiles consumes less energy and produces less pollutants, traveling by air has a variety of reasons. For instance, a patient is transported by air from where she is injured to the hospital.
The opponents might argue that this is not the “unnecessary flights”. Nevertheless it is ambiguous and vague to use such a term. How to define an “unnecessary” flight? Is there a legal or generally accepted criterion against which the feature of a flight can be clearly and correctly labeled as “necessary” or “unnecessary”? Nay.
Therefore, the argument mentioned in the topic is neither logically sound nor practically significant.

電腦網(wǎng)絡(luò)優(yōu)缺點(diǎn)分析
題目:With computers and Internet, people can study and work without going to school or company. Do the advantages outweigh its disadvantages?
參考范文:
When it comes to the issue about the Internet, some people argue that their efficiency will be lower if they could study or work at home using the Internet, but I cannot agree with this opinion.
Initially, using the Internet could serve as an efficient contributing factor to save more time for people. For those who live in a metropolis, it is common for them to spend two or even three hours on the way to schools or companies and back home. However, distance learning or working assists them to avoid the possible traffic congestion they may meet during the commuting time. Thus, because of the existence of Internet, learners or workers are potent to distribute more time to their study or work.
Furthermore, it is beneficial to study or work at home because people could arrange their schedules more freely. Some students or workers have the higher efficiency during daytime while others may be more efficient at night. Studying or working at home enables individuals to allocate their time to different tasks according to their willingness. For example, for some art subjects, inspiration could be sparked better during a silent night, but not common working time.
But the refuting voice may come from the opponents that working or studying alone at home may deprive people of the chance of communication; however, they oversimplify this situation. It is true that most employees or learners do tasks at home by themselves, but the fact is that they still have various methods to communication with peers or workmates, and it is the Internet that also provides them with convenient ways of keeping in touch with other people.
In conclusion, people could benefit more if they adopt the way of working or learning by Internet, considering that they could save more time and have a free timetable.

Universities provide profound subjects in particular field to train people for their career. People are facing lots of hardships to complete their higher education and dropouts became common. There are several reasons for this trend which I intend to discuss in this essay in hope of suggesting appropriate measures to overcome this negative trend.
To begin with, there are a number of issues making todays students university education tough. Most importantly, more new courses are introduced into higher studies. Though, youngsters are attracted towards these new courses, the limited seats became a hurdle for them. The very tough competition for seats leaves them in physical and mental agony. Another point is the high cost of education. Younger generation try to meet the educational expenses through educational loans and part time jobs. The hard jobs, heavy curriculum and lack of time management flattened them under pressure. Sometimes they feel, the degree holders remain unemployed and it is better to continue part time jobs as full time jobs and they leave their education. The assignments and projects are sometimes hard to finish on time. All these problems make the students university study harder than their school days.
The solutions are not simple, but people can manage it and enjoy their studies as before. Firstly, parents and students should realize their strengths and limitations, and the skills needed to finish a course before choosing a course. Dedication and time management should be learnt by the students from their early life itself, which help them to mold their future life without mixing jobs with life or study. Parental support to their children in financial and academic problems like assisting them in a project work or assignment should also be encouraged. As governments are a powerful institute, they can make guidelines for curriculum in higher education and avoid overburden on these young minds. The grant or scholorships and on-campus jobs will provide financial support for them. Governments must either increase the seats of popular courses or approve new universities in both public and private sectors, to start the course.
In conclusion, it is undeniably true that the university education is harder than school studies and with personal, parental and government support and co-operation one can overcome this. Lets hope university students can enjoy their studies as their school days by these approaches.

While it may be disliked by many, the modern game industry is a part of our world. From its humble beginnings in the 80s, the computer game industry has exploded into a 10-billion dollar empire. It is a debatable issue whether these games are good or bad. In this essay, I intend to delve into the pros and cons of these games and finally give my opinion.
There are many advantages of computer games. To begin with, computer games playing introduces children to computer technology. Secondly, some games provide practice in problem solving and logic . Age of Empires. Video games have proved to improve visual skills. They also improve motor and spatial skills. Children who play computer games have better reflexes.
What is more, these modern games make learning fun. The cost of failure is lower. This encourages risk taking and exploration. If the kid gets the answer wrong or their character dies, they just start the game over and try again. Finally, some games have therapeutic applications.
On the other hand, there are some disadvantages of these technological inventions. Firstly, overdependence on these games leads to social isolation as these are usually played alone. Secondly, some games have violent characters and seeing their violent acts leads to aggressive behaviour in children. Moreover, these games can confuse reality and fantasy. For example, when children play car racing games then they may race their own vehicles in real life which can lead to accidents. Finally, many games do not require action that requires independence and creativity.
To put it in a nutshell, I pen down saying that on the whole these games are very good and certainly their advantages outweigh their disadvantages but these should be played in moderation. Parents should limit the game playing time and see to it that homework and chores are done before playing.

Some people think that children should learn how to compete, but others think that children should be taught to cooperate to become more useful adults.
Express some reasons for both views and give your own opinions.
The current dispute on whether children should be taught to compete or to cooperate among some people should, to my mind, be reconciled if we consider the fact that childrens education should be examined according to general education guidelines and specific situations.
Educations primary goal is moral development. In every country, elementary school pupils learn moral values and the rights and duties of citizenship besides reading and writing. Children are expected to learn, for example, honesty, cooperation and the rules of social behavior so that they may acquire an understanding of universal moral principles necessary for societys survival and to become more useful adults after their growing up.
Moreover, as we know, the effect of an activity or experience depends on how the child interprets it. For instance, violent behavior on television may heighten the aggressive tendencies of a child who considers such behavior permissible. Children are less likely to be influenced by TV violence if they have learned that violent behavior is wrong.
Education also helps children adjust to changes in specific situations. This benefit has become increasingly important because social changes today take place with rapid speed, and affects the lives of more and more children. For example, the competition among school leavers for enrolment in key high schools has become fiercer year by year. Education can help a child understand it and provide the skills for adjusting to it. Therefore, children should learn how to compete with other children in order not to fail in the competition.

Dear Mr and Mrs Brock,I hope you are doing great. It is a shame that we do not know each other very well and I would like to apologise for that. I am writing this letter to respond to your complaint letter that you sent me yesterday about the noise on last Saturday. I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and humbly ask for your forgiveness.
With the concern of home safety, my wife and I decided to install a few smoke detectors in our flat, especially after we saw a devastating fire in our neighbourhood lately. We bought the devices from an online store and started to install and test the gadgets when the shipment had arrived. To ensure that the sound of the fire alarm is loud enough and everyone in the house would notice it, we tested the gadgets for about 20 minutes. Although the testing took place at midday on last Saturday, my wife and I are terribly sorry that your child’s nap was bothered.
I beg for your understanding and forgiveness. Please accept this box of chocolate as a token of my deepest regret for the inconvenience.
Yours sincerely,Lesner

The graphic illustrates the life process of the silkworm and the phases in the manufacture of silk material.
Overall, the life cycle is a natural process and contains four cyclical phases, beginning with the laying of eggs and ending with the birth of a new moth from a cocoon. The production of silk is, in contrast to the previous stage, a man-made linear process comprising of 6 main stages.
To begin with, eggs are produced by the moth and it takes 10 days for the eggs to hatch into silkworm larvae that feed on mulberry leaves. This stage takes between 4 and 6 weeks before the worms construct a cocoon from silk thread, taking approximately one week. They stay there for around a fortnight, subsequently emerging as moths and the process can begin again.
The first stage in the manufacture of silk is the selection of cocoons and these are then boiled. Once boiled, the silk thread is unwound to a length of between 300 and 900 meters. Finally, the silk can be twisted and weaved into cloth before being dyed.

International tourism does trigger tensions in a diverse array of fields. To begin with, the increase in the use of such traffic means as airplanes, trains, buses, and the like weakens the fragile balance (equilibrium) in an ecosystem. It also ruins the biodiversity in the ecosystem. Next, tensions in economic development are also conspicuous. The primitive economic pattern is inevitably vulnerable to the influences from the tourists who come from different economic systems. Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan, China is a typical case in point, where the local economic pattern has been shifting from the agriculture to tourism.
Despite the tensions, international tourism contributes to the understanding between people from different cultures, religions, races, and political ideas. This is because the tourism per se is more than appreciating the beautiful, brilliant natural landscapes, cultural traditions, or interesting customs. It is a kind of contacts. To contact is to communicate. Communication naturally promotes understandings. For instance, the Americans who traveled to Tibet tend to understand why Chinese governments insist that Tibet be a part of the Chinese territory and it should never be separated from the Chinese sovereignty. In fact, religious understanding serves as another telling example. The Christians who visit an Islamic attraction are more easily to accept that different religious should be able to coexist.
To sum up, the international tourism helps people understand each other although it has caused some tensions.

The pie charts illustrate how the number of persons in every household varied in an European country in years of 1995 and 2005.
Data provided for 1995 show that the percentage of two persons per household was the highest, at 31% which was similar to that of three people in a household ( 30%). Over the next ten years, the figure for two people per household kept almost the same while increased by 5% for three people, making it the biggest share of the pie.
Regarding to the proportion of one person and six persons per household, it both declined to 2% and 3% respectively during the ten-year period. On the contrary, although there were only 8% of people who lived in a household with five persons in 1995, the figure soared to 15% in 2005. The similar percent of citizens lived in a household with four persons in the same period.
In conclusion, it can be seen that two or three persons per household was the most common no matter in 1995 or 2005.

The government should control the amount of violence in films and on television in order to decrease the violent crimes in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this issue?
Recently, the discussion about whether the government should control the amount of violence in films and on television has become a heated one. People take diverse attitudes towards this issue. Before presenting my view, I seek to analyze the issue from different angles.
From some people’s point of view, there are many good reasons for controlling the amount of violence in films and on television. First, violent films and television can do harm to young people. Because they contains numerous of erotic, corrupt and provoking episode, which can bring negative influence to na?ve young people. Moreover, since young people are in the formative years, they are not mature enough. They always like imitating their idols, no matter right or wrong, which lead to the increasing of the juvenile delinquents. Thirdly, violence begets violence. Violent films and television can make people aggressive and cold-blooded, which enhance the violent crime in society. In a word, controlling the amount of violence in films and TV effectively can decrease the violent crimes in society and preserve social security.
Many others, however, take a quite strong opposite attitude towards this issue. They believe violent media have their positive sides, which should not be controlled by government. To begin with, there are many valuable education functions in this kind of films and TV. Because they can reflect the reality, and we can’t imagine that there aren’t any con information but only pro things in our world. Secondly, if the government control the violent films and television, it must influence the development of the entertainment industry. Last but not least, they can prepare children for the adult world and teach them to cherish life.
As far as I am concern, I strongly believe that the amount of violence in films and TV should be controlled. At the same time, we cannot deny the advantages brought by them. And the best policy is to develop the merits of the violent films and television, while grading and filtering them, describing that which are not fit for the children to watch.

Some people believe that the majority of artists earn low salaries and hence government funding is necessary for them to continue with their profession. I strongly disagree with this statement because of the reasons mentioned below.
Most of the talented artists are earning good salary. In any field of art, hardworking and skilful artists have successful life with enough fame and money. More specifically, actors, painters, writers and dancers are getting good remuneration for their performance. Paintings of good painters are sold for a great deal of money. It is well known to the public that dancers and actors lead highly luxurious lives.
Government funding is not at all required for these artists. Most of the artists are leading good standard life compared to many other people in the society. In other words, there are many sections of people who are really poor and actually need some help from the government to meet their basic needs such as food, clothes and education. For example, there are many people who do not have a proper house to stay in. Road workers and construction workers are earning low wages. There are many families where there are sick males who are unable to do any job. So, the government should give its help and support to these poorer sections of the society.
Another argument against giving financial aid to artists is that most of them have some sort of university education. So if they are not able to earn as much as they want, they can do some other job to supplement their income.
In conclusion, artists are getting enough income and government support is not mandatory for them. Therefore I strongly disagree with the statement.

Although bombarded with different kinds of news, audiences these days rarely read news by newspapers but by other media. However, my view is that in delivering news, newspaper is outdated and other media, as an effective and efficient tool for people to read news, is a far better alternative.
Less time-efficient and cost-efficient, newspaper is no longer preferable in today’s world. For one thing, the newspaper fails to change its role in spreading news in a world where every individual puts great emphasis on the effectiveness over time. This is mainly because producing newspaper is also man-made process of editing, printing news onto paper and finally distributing it to readers, which is quite time-consuming. When the news reaches the readers, it may be out of date. For another, the distribution of newspapers is also labor-intensive and thus money-consuming. For example, this needs workers to print, transport and sell the newspapers to readers, so that employees have to pay for more salaries, a contribution that every employer seems to be reluctant to make.
So powerful are other media, especially social media ,that they can spread news a great deal faster and farther than any other news outlets including the newspaper do. Without having to buy a newspaper, what readers just need to do is updating their Twitter or Facebook or surfing online whenever they want to read news or wherever they are as long as the Internet access is available. For example, as soon as some big events like the Boston Marathon bombing happen, the news unfolds simultaneously through social media as well as live TV broadcast, and travels to every corner of the world instantly. This is what the newspaper can hardly compete.
In conclusion, being convenient and fast in news spreading, other media not just gain more popularity among different readers but undermine the position of the old-fashioned newspaper.(306words)

In the contemporary society, most countries tend to allocate parts of budget for the renovation of old buildings, in particular, these with historic meanings and regarded as the landmark of a region, like Forbidden City in Beijing, because the value of culture behind is priceless, and the technique used represents our ancestors talents and the construction level at that time and can never be duplicated, by which the archaeology would be promoted significantly.
Coming along with the culture and historic values, the existence of old building strengthens people s sense of identity. Unlike the high-rises and skyscrapers, which almost look the same all around the world, those architectural heritages withstood the test of time and display the unique architectural design of a region or period. What s more, they even contribute to the boom of tourism. Every year, there are thousands of tourists both from home and abroad visiting them and appreciating their irresistible glamour. This case is often seen in the Westminster Abbey in London and Colosseum in Rome. There is no doubt that the thriving tourism earns huge profits for local government and residents.
Nonetheless, it must be admitted that governments funding on the furnishing new residences and road development does generate several benefits. For one thing, inhabitants have chances to live in houses with a comfortable environment and reasonable layout. For another thing, more highways can be built to connect surrounding cities and suitable road planning can be implemented to satisfy the demands of public transportation. In spite of theses, historical buildings deserve public funding for its protection; otherwise, parts of human civilization would vanish in the years to come.
In conclusion, I firmly claim that it is the obligation of government to focus on the restoration of old building as they are symbols of traditional culture and reflect the history of a country.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write a report for a university
lecturer describing the information shown below. You should write at least 150 words.
In this analysis we will examine three pie charts. The first one is headed ‘World Spending.’ The second is ‘World Population’ and the third is ‘Consumption of Resources.’
In the first chart we can see that people spend most of their income (24%) on food. In some countries this percentage would obviously be much higher. Transport and then housing are the next major expenses at 18% and 12% respectively. Only 6% of income is spent on clothing.
In the second chart entitled ‘World Population’, it is not surprising to find that 57% of people live in Asia. In fact China and India are two of the most populated countries in the world and they are both situated on this continent. Europe and the Americans account for nearly 30% of the total, whilst 10% of people live in Africa.
Finally, the third chart reveals that the USA and Europe consume a huge 60% of the world’s resource.
To sum up, the major expenditure is on food, the population figures are the highest for Asia and the major consumers are the USA and Europe.
The two graphs show that oil was the major energy source in the USA in both 1980 and 1990.
It is manifest from the pie charts that coal, natural gas and hydroelectric power remained in much the same proportions. On the other hand, there was a dramatic rise in nuclear power, which doubled its percentage over the ten years.
Oil supplied the largest percentage of energy, although the percentage decreased from 42% in 1980 to 33% in 1990. Coal in 1990 was the second largest source of energy, increasing its proportion to 27% from 22% in the previous decade. Natural gas, the second largest source in 1980 at 26%, decreased its share very slightly to provide 25% of America’s energy ten years later. There was no change in the percentage supplied by hydroelectric power which remained at 5% of the total energy used. Nuclear power the greatest change: in 1990 it was 10%, twice that of the 1980s.

University graduates receive higher salaries than those who have a lower education. Therefore, some people say such students should pay for all their tuition fees. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
You should use your own ideas of knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Some people assert that government should be responsible for the full tuition of college students because they are the cream of society and contribute much to the society. This argument is true to some degree. Nevertheless, there are more reasons why university students should support themselves for the full tuition of their tertiary education.
First of all, it can ensure the quality of college education. Compared with the elementary and secondary education, the college education is operating in a quite different system, which covers a great variety of researching fields and involves numerous distinguished professors and projects. In other words, it needs a great sum of money. If this complicated system is supported by the nation without much income from the beneficiaries (the college students), it will exert very heavy pressure on the country’s economy. If the government is unable to invest enough money on university education because of the limited budget, the quality of education will be undermined.
In the second place, it is a quite fair practice. Most of the countries in the world are supporting the elementary and secondary education, which is reasonable since the citizens should be encouraged to receive basic education and which is advantageous for the development of the nation. However, it is unnecessary that all the citizens go to colleges. Some high school leavers give up their further study because they have their own life aim. That is to say, going to university is a totally personal choice. Therefore it is not unreasonable that the people who make such choice pay for it.
From the above views, I hold the opinion that college students should pay for the full tuition, which can both guarantee the quality of higher education and be a reasonable practice. (291 words)

I am from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. I believe that building a large factory near my community has advantages as well as disadvantages. In the following paragraphs I will list basic benefits and losses that will be brought by a new factory.
For several reasons, I think that a new factory will not be a good addition to my neighborhood. First of all, factories often bring pollution. They are prone to contaminating the local air and water. Second of all, factories make noise. Another important aspect of building a new factory near by is that it will make the local traffic heavy. As a result of this, the amount of traffic congestions will increase, as well as contamination of the air. So, all these obviously will not make ones life happier and healthier in my community.
From the other side, I believe that a new factory will bring some advantages to my community. First of all, it will bring new job opportunities. Many specialists will be required to work there. Second of all, I think many local community facilities will have to be renovated to obtain reliable supply of water and electricity. So, some old pipes may be changed. Another important benefit of this is that the local roads in order to manage the increasing traffic will be rebuilt and widened.
However, I do not think that listed above benefits are worth all these troubles including water contamination and the constant pollution of air. From my point of view all factories must be built far from the people communities because they can be really harmful for peoples health.

The 21st century has begun.
What changes do you think this new century will bring?
Model Answer:
Man, through the ages, has undergone many changes from the time when he depicted a herd of mammoths on the walls of his cave to these days when he can create beautiful pictures and even make coffee by use of computer technologies without leaving his favorite chair. The 20th century made huge steps in developing computer technologies and reached many goals that made our life much easier. What should we expect in the 21st century?
First of all, I think that the pace of our life will speed up: we will move faster from one place to another, from one continent to another using high speed jet airplanes. Second of all, I believe that we will be able to do many things that take much time now without leaving our house. Computers will be everywhere including out clothes. Many people will have chips and mini computers ed in their heads to hold huge amount of information and have a quick access to it.
But what will be the most amazing thing in the 21st century is the flights to the outer space and Mars that will be available to all people. Scientists say that Mars has many things similar to the Earths. Moreover, they say that with the help of modern technology people can artificially create conditions that will allow people to live there on the constant basis.
To sum up, I am sure that many amazing changes will be brought by the 21st century. Furthermore, I think that with the help of the contemporary technologies people can do many things that were even difficult to imagine a century ago. So, nowadays it is rather difficult and even impossible to imagine all changes that will happen in the next decades.

Nowadays, there are all kinds of channels to get news, such as radio, television, newspaper and internet. In my opinion, internet is the best among these.
Since its invention, the Internet has been keeping booming as a prospective industry. Not only because it is a combination of texts, audios and videos, but also due to its convinience. It has threatened the domination of spreading news of the traditional media, and, I would say, is about to take control.
We can find what we want on internet such as latest news, books, songs, movies and so on. With radio, we can merely hear. Compared with newspaper, radio and television can provide the lastest information. For instance, it was immediately availalbe of the breaking news of the Americans’ attacking on Iraq, as well as that the Twin Towers of New York were destroyed on September 11, 2001. However, we just cannot carry television.
Internet is a convinient way of getting information, as long as your mobile phone is connected or you possess a laptop. When I am on a vehicle, I usually have my cellphone connected to internet, then browse what happend in the past few hours, or begin a conversation with my friends. Reading newspaper is also a good way to kill time, but for me, a youngster, it is not so modern as “surfing online while being transported”.
The traditional media will never disappear, though internet has taken a big advantage in the competition. And definitely, there is still a long way for internet to go. Anyway, internet benefits me the most, and I highly appreciate it.

It is true that many older people believe in traditional values that often seem incompatible with the needs of younger people. While I agree that some traditional ideas are outdated, I believe that others are still useful and should not be forgotten.
On the one hand, many of the ideas that elderly people have about life are becoming less relevant for younger people. In the past, for example, people were advised to learn a profession and find a secure job for life, but today’s workers expect much more variety and diversity from their careers. At the same time, the ‘rules’ around relationships are being eroded as young adults make their own choices about who and when to marry. But perhaps the greatest disparity between the generations can be seen in their attitudes towards gender roles. The traditional roles of men and women, as breadwinners and housewives, are no longer accepted as necessary or appropriate by most younger people.
On the other hand, some traditional views and values are certainly applicable to the modern world. For example, older generations attach great importance to working hard, doing one’s best, and taking pride in one’s work, and these behaviours can surely benefit young people as they enter today’s competitive job market. Other characteristics that are perhaps seen as traditional are politeness and good manners. In our globalised world, young adults can expect to come into contact with people from a huge variety of backgrounds, and it is more important than ever to treat others with respect. Finally, I believe that young people would lead happier lives if they had a more ‘old-fashioned’ sense of community and neighbourliness.
In conclusion, although the views of older people may sometimes seem unhelpful in today’s world, we should not dismiss all traditional ideas as irrelevant.

There is an upsurge in practical knowledge in these years and people have seen many education courses being totally theory-based. Going to college or learning practical skills, which is better, has been a discussion among public. In my view, the choice really depends on different individuals’ needs and will.
When a student is leaning academic knowledge in university, other skills are also developed. University education will focus on some exceptional abilities like organization, interpretation, evaluation and communication, which can help students to be a well-rounded person. A qualified student should also posses some important skills, such as problems solving and critical thinking.
Learning fixing or construction or something practical like these also sounds reasonable. It is well-recognized that every student has to work after they graduate. They should be equipped with competence which enhances the transition from school to work. Besides, an excellent student learner is admittedly important to society, but more important is his or her productivity. However, college education focuses more on theoretical knowledge instead of practical abilities, which distances learners from the real life.
My view is that this choice is according to different people’s needs and will. For instance, if a doctor spends 3 years in practicing medicine, his experience will be more than his peers who stay in college after they graduate. Also, in our society, a doctor’s reputation is based on his skills and doctors, practical skills are more important. However, it may be better to pursue further education for a philosopher until he gets a doctor degree. Meanwhile, different people have different wills to do different things, which means they can do the personal choice for themselves.
Overall, I think the choice is quite personal and people will make the best decision based on their conditions.

Some people think that environmentalproblems are too big for individuals to deal with. Others, however, think that each individual should take some actions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion。
It is true that our tiny individual actions often seem insignificantcompared to the scale and complexity of global environmental problems such as pollution, deforestation and depletion of natural resources. But that does not relieve our duty as individuals to do as much as we can to deal with these problems。
Individual actions, small as they may be, can sometimes prove more effective than we realize. We can avoid driving the car, and take public transit, walk, or bicycle instead. This will reduce the use of fossil fuels and cut pollution. Saving energy at home, like turning on the air conditioner only when we have to, or turning water heater down a few degrees, is also ultimately good for the environment. Individual actions can also turn into united powers when, for example, the whole neighborhood is mobilized to participate in a local campaignto oppose environmentally damaging policies。
There are, however, obstacles that stand in the way of individual action towards environmental conservation. The first obstacle is the lack of professional knowledge needed to cope with serious environmental issues like soil erosion and salinity, which requires a significant amount of investigation and research. Another obstacle which makes individual action almost impossible is when an environmental emergency or accident happens, . an oil spill or a nuclear leakage near the border line, which would necessitategovernment engagement or even international coordination。
So, in conclusion, when it comes to environmental problems, individual actions are indispensable in the problem solving process. But the most pressing and complicatedproblems go far beyond an individual’s capability and so require the concerted effort of the government as well as the global community。

Some feel that the children of low income families are better equipped to deal with difficulties posed by the “real world” when they grow up and they also believe the privileged children of wealthy families are less fit to deal with these difficulties. The implications and veracity of this argument seem self-evident,but in fact require closer examination.
The popular wisdom is that children of poorer families learn early on the value of a buck ,and are thus naturally better suited to stretching money when times get tough in adulthood. Inversely, the children of wealthy families, thoseborn with a silver spoon in their mouths, are believed to be completely ignorant of the tentimes erroneously expecting the same situation in adulthood. They are believed to be prone to overspending and financial irresponsibility. This belief, though logical, overlooks one key point which is,of course, education.
The basis of this argument is,of course, knowing the value of money ,and the idea that children of the poor know this, and those of the wealthy do not.Who though,is in a better position to teach their children the value of money, someone skilled in earning and keeping it,the wealthy parent,or someone who can not seem to acquire it,the poor parent? Both wealthy and poor children are equally likely to acquire an education in money, whether it is formal,or in the school of hard knocks. Conversely, both children are as likely to ignore this education.
A poor child may believe that one can get along,if not as easily, without wealthy.A wealthy child may be well trained by a parent steeped in the knowledge of money management, the key to developing this skill is education.

More and more people using mobile phone and computer to instead ofletters. Will letter disappear completely? Agree or disagree? Howimportant of letter writing you think are?Mobile phone and computer have filled the shoes of letters as primarymeans of communication in our life. Technology enables us to get in touchwith each other with unparalleled speed and convenience. But as the oldestand one of the most cherished ways of communication, letter will maintainits presence peoples life instead of disappearing completely.Letters have a sense of personal touch, which is much less apparent incell phone and computer communication. The reason is very simple. Letterwriting takes considerably longer time than developing an email on acomputer. After finishing a letter, people need to drop it in a mailbox orgo to a post office to mail it. In modern time, the idea of spending moretime on something indicates the importance attached to it. The recipientof a letter, therefore, appreciates it more than answering a call orgetting an email from a friend. We use letters to send printed or signed documents that could not bedelivered by phone talk or computer. Under many business circumstances, contracts or business corespondents could be enclosed in a mail to theother party. In addition, letters correspondences are safer thancommunicating via phone or computer, both of which could be subjected toinformation interception by people with ill intention.Admittedly, the wide use of modern technology in communication hasinfluenced the more traditional way of social contact and informationexchange such as letter writing. Still due the uniqueness of letter, itwill continue to exist in our life.In conclusion, mobile phone and computer have given people superior meansof communication, but letter will not disappear completely because it ismore personal, safer, and useful than other ways of communication.-------Some people think that the earlier technology has changed our life morethan the recent technology. Do you agree or disagree?Technology, old or new, has indeed made our life different. We no longeramaze at telephones, computers, Internet, or cars, all of which are nowjust indispensable to our life. But technologies vary in nature andapplication, and we should not weight their importance merely in terms ofthe time of their development.First of all, earlier technology and later technology, in manycircumstances, are complimentary to each other, and serve different peoplefor various purposes. For example, telephone made its first two centuries ago. Since then, peoples distance and spacehas been shortened by this amazing invention. Modern technology has madenumerous breakthroughs in the field of telecommunication, particularlywith the emergence of computer and information technology. A number of thenew technologies, in some ways, have taken some of the turf of telephone. The younger generation spends a major part of time talking andcommunicating via Internet-based technology such as OICQ. Overlapping asthe old and new technology in communication, each wouldnt be completewithout the other. As a result, it would not make much sense to judge thesignificance of technologies only by time.Second, it would not be fair and reasonable to compare technologies indifferent fields. Say, does it make any sense to compare engine withcomputer chip? The former is used in trains, airplanes, and cars, whilethe later drives computer to perform thousands of tasks. Just pretty muchlike we could not compare an apple with an orange, we could not logicallymake comparison between technologies in different fields. However, many of the modern technologies do attribute their development toearlier ones. Without the development of power plant, we probably stilluse candles for light instead of lamp or bulb, not to mention otherelectricity-powered home appliances. In conclusion, old technology and new technology are both important to ourlife. Even some new technologies are based on older ones, they aredeveloped and used in different areas. It is hard or even unreasonable tocompare their significance by the time of their appearance.。

題目:
Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment; only governments and large companies can make a difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
范文:
Nowadays, environmental protection has become one of the most important issues the public are concerned about. While some people deem that it is the responsibility of the government and big companies to protect the environment because they hold the power and pool the resources necessary while individuals are too feeble to make much effort, I think that every individual can make a difference.
There is an old saying goes as: Constant efforts bring success. This means that individuals did have the capacity to save our motherland if they band together and move towards the same direction. For example, if everyone in China saves one piece of paper every day, nearly a million trees can be saved in one day. Therefore, we must realize the power of each person and shoulder our own responsibility.
Moreover, the most important thing must be the effect on big companies and factories caused by public awareness and habits. Specifically, environmental-friendly behaviors of the public can largely influence the business strategies of big companies. For example, when disposable plastic bags are not popular anymore in the market, the manufacturers will stop their production and find eco-friendly replacements such as fabric bags. Thus, the power of individuals is maximized and makes a big difference.
However, that is not to say we should ignore the responsibility of the government and big companies. Admittedly, in solving some large-scale problems like deforestation and greenhouse effect, the government and big companies should fully harness their technology and power to come up with strategic plans.
In summary, everyone is responsible in protecting our planet. Meanwhile, the government and big companies should shoulder their responsibilities and make full use of their power and resources. Only in this way can we assure that we can hand over the planet to our next generation.

Discuss the difference between fast food and traditional food, such as nutrition, and recipe?
Living in a fast-paced society, the modern eaters are not longer interested in the contents of their food, but focused on whether a convenient meal is available at hand to devour. Statistics indicate that even housewives spend much shorter time at kitchen than their predecessors. This writing will compare and contrast advantages and disadvantages of fast food and traditional food.
Traditional food has its unshakable position in the human culture both in the social and historical context. Historically, chefs have gone to all lengths to experiment on novelties, invent cooking skills to gratify guests hunger. Hence, traditional food has secured its incomparable value with a complex of tantalising features, including the variance, flavour, and taste. Its unique charms can nurture social relations as well. A family is accustomed to prepare a traditional feast to serve their guests at weekend or on holiday, such as Christmas.
Further, traditional food is favourably nutritious and balanced, compared with fast food. Dieticians have suggested audience through millions of televised courses that traditional food can retain more nutrition before being served on the table, for in general, they are cooked with a temperate heat. By contrast, the fast food are made at such a high temperature that nutrition has inescapably vaporised during the cooking process. Meanwhile, cooks pay more attention to the balance of recipe when preparing traditional food, such as combing meat with vegetable.
Despite a range of advantages, traditional food is overshadowed by its fast competitor in terms of time. Traditional food can consume a considerable amount of time from choosing materials, to arranging your table for visual appeal. In contrast, fast food cannot be faster when making a five-minute trip to a store around the corner, or even dialling to a fast food company. Needless to say recently, a string of fast food companies have tried their hardest to enrich the menu.
To summarise, traditional food has an irreplaceable role in our life, backed with various merits. However, its prevalence is declining for people are more and more time conscious.

The development of children depends on many factors, including parents, school education, media, peers and so forth. personally, I agree that the family is less influential than other aspects working together, and my reasons would be explored as below.
Admittedly, the influence of family on children is very deep, because parents, primary teachers in the life of children, set the first role models for them to learn and imitate, and which would be logged into the impressionable childhood mind and determine basic behaviors and thinking of them. For example, by observing and learning the daily activities of parents, like speaking, cooking and house cleaning, washing hands before eating, a child can master the language, self-care ability and hygienic habits. Besides, parents also play a key role in developing the intelligence of children. For instance, with day-to-day teaching, communication and storytelling, a parent can help a child to improve cognitive skills like basic mathematic calculation, memorizing, reading, and thinking and judging in a proper way.
However, I strongly believe outside-of-home elements make greater contributions to the overall growth of children. Firstly, in terms of academic education, teachers in school have priority over parents. For example, compared with some parent who have low-level or even no education, teachers are professionally educated and trained in formal university, and well-experienced in teaching. That is to say, school teachers are more advantageous and influential, in terms of comprehensively and accurately instructing, explaining and demonstrating common knowledge about laws of nature and universe, theories and formulas of math and physics, and events and people in history. What is more, forming social skills also relies on a school environment where children have opportunities to communicate, play and argue with other peers. This strong interpersonal interaction can make children proficient in real-world socialization.
Besides, mass media is another external factor affecting children’s development. For example, violent video on the Internet, TV programs and computer games are very likely to twist social values of the young audience, because children, unlike adults, are lack of abilities to distinguish right from wrong. Therefore, with long-term exposure to ill information, children would be rude, aggressive and self eccentric. As a result, they, more often than not, consider violence as the main or even only way to solve problems, thereby leading to school bullying.
In conclusion, when it comes to the importance in influencing children, other aspects like teachers in school and media override the parents, for the reasons that the formers have incomparable effects on the education, social skills and personalities of children.

Poverty reduction is again a hot topic worldwide when the economic crisis hits the poorest counties hardest. While more attention drawn to this issue, some problems emerge with people’s opinions divided. Many people believe countries have a moral obligation to help each other, whilst others argue that aid money is, more often than not, misspent by the recipients, so foreign aids, as a well-intended mechanism, simply failed and need to be scrapped.
As a more widely shared knowledge than ever, poverty in the third world is an inevitable cause of all the chaos afflicting the world, from crimes, regional confrontations to terrorism, even pandemics. On this more and more globalized world, a nation could no longer be exempt from the unstableness and misery suffered by its neighbouring countries. Even the cry from the faraway end of the globe will be brought to your ears through all the links and ties. It is, therefore, a consensus among both the rich and the poor that only when poverty is eliminated once and for all, can peace and prosperity be attained and sustained. To this common end, the only possible way is to engage rich countries in helping poor ones generously and unconditionally.
Sure enough, there are some high-profile scandals of fund misuse. It’s also true foreign aid did foster corruption and irresponsible policymaking in some countries. Yet, this should not serve as the excuse of withdrawing these most needed aids which are supposed to and also proved to save lives and deliver hopes. A loose governance or corruptive government cannot cancel off the desperate needs of its people. On the other hand, there are some effective measures can be taken to avoid, at least to some extent, such undesirable situations, for instance, strengthening the supervision of fund disbursement, delivering aids through the network of non-governmental organizations, or helping to promote recipient counties’ governance and management.
In other words, the abuses involved with foreign aids can be checked through other available means rather than just abandoning the whole package altogether. As I mentioned above, there is hardly any way more effective than international aids in fighting world hunger and its tragic consequences. On no accounts would we give up on our shared dream of creating a planet free from tears and bleeding. So let’s work together to hold the rich countries accountable in this tough battle.

Some people think that the urgent task is to develop economy on a large scale. First, they hold that many people, especially in rural areas, are living in poverty. As a result, many children drop out of school and can’t afford even the compulsory education. Second, they believe only by further balance and developing our economy can we get rid of poverty and gain the overall prosperity.
On the other hand, many people insist that environment protection should be a top priority. First, they claim that we have only one mother earth, if our ecological environment is heavily polluted or ruined, we could not even survive on this planet. Second, they believe, it’s the rapid and advanced development of economy that leads to the present situation that most parts of the world are polluted. If the problem left unsolved, one day we may have nothing to drink, let alone develop our economy.
In my opinion, both economy and environment protection are our urgent tasks now. Without economic development, we should remain backward. Moreover, we might be conquered or bullied by other powerful countries. And without environment protection, we should lose our home. Therefore, the best solution is to develop environment-protection-oriented industries and agriculture so as to kill two birds with one stone.

題目:Nowadays many students have the opportunity to study for part or all of their courses in foreign countries. While studying abroad brings many benefits to individual students, it also has a number of disadvantages. Do you agree or disagree?
In recent years there has been a vast increase in the number of students choosing to study abroad. This is partly because people are more affluent and party due to the variety of grants and scholarships which are available for overseas students nowadays. Although foreign study is not something which every student would choose, it is an attractive option for many people.
Studying overseas has a number of advantages. Firstly, it may give students access to knowledge and facilities such as laboratories and libraries which are not available in their home country. Furthermore, by looking abroad students may find a wider range of courses than those offered in their country’s universities, and therefore one which fits more closely to their particular requirements.
On the other hand, studying abroad has a number of drawbacks. These may be divided into personal and professional. Firstly, students have to leave their family and friends for a long period. Furthermore, studying abroad is almost always more expensive than studying at one’s local university. Finally, students often have to study in a foreign language, which may limit their performance and mean they do not attain their true level.
In my opinion, however, the disadvantages of studying abroad are usually temporary in nature. Students who study abroad generally become proficient in the language quite soon and they are only away from their family and friends for a year or two. Furthermore, many of the benefits last students all their lives and make them highly desirable to prospective employers.
